Funerals – A Life, Not a Template

When somebody dies, I'll begin by listening. I want to understand the person behind the dates, their personality, relationships, achievements and passions, but also their quirks, sayings, funny stories and those tiny details that immediately make the people who loved them smile. I'll spend time with you and your family, liaise with your funeral director, where appropriate, and create a completely personal ceremony and tribute for your approval. We can incorporate favourite music, poetry, readings, photographs, contributions from family and friends and moments of quiet reflection. I'll then conduct the ceremony with warmth, confidence and sensitivity, giving you one less thing to worry about at an incredibly difficult time.

A Humanist funeral can be deeply moving without being religious and it certainly doesn't have to be relentlessly sombre. The person we're saying goodbye to sets the tone. If they were funny, let's laugh. If music was their life, let's hear it. If they hated fuss, let's keep things beautifully simple. If a conventional crematorium service doesn't feel right, we can explore a woodland burial or a Celebration of Life somewhere completely different. Humanism recognises that you don't need to believe in a god to grieve deeply, love completely or mark the end of a life with meaning and dignity. This is their story, told honestly and affectionately, and a chance for the people who loved them to say goodbye in a way that feels fitting.
